This guide is for speakers invited to present via Attendify Virtual Experience. It'll help you learn how to grant the required browser permissions (audio, video, and screen sharing) to Attendify's platform and how to grant system permissions to the browser you're using.

Attendify supports four browsers for presenting:

  1. Google Chrome
  2. Safari
  3. Firefox
  4. Microsoft Edge.

After joining the event as a speaker, it's best to make sure your audio, video, and screen sharing work properly and you've granted the necessary permissions. It's recommended to configure everything at least 24 hours before the event and then make additional tests a couple of hours prior to your session start.

Navigate to the session you're presenting at and click "Enter Practice Room." Once you are in, try enabling your microphone, camera, and screen sharing. You can do this by clicking the three respective toggles at the top of your screen:

1. Permissions for Attendify's platform

Before you can share your mic, webcam, or screen, you'll need to grant permissions to Attendify. You only have to grant it once so later you can seamlessly turn your audio/video on and off during the session.

When you do this for the first time, the browser you're using will open a pop-up where you can grant the permission. Once granted, the corresponding toggle should switch on and turn green, indicating successful sharing:

1.1. Granting permissions in Google Chrome / Microsoft Edge

For microphone and camera, click "Allow" when prompted (one-time, your choice will be saved):

For screen sharing, you'll need to select what exactly you want to share: your entire screen, certain application window (e. g. your keynote), or a specific Chrome tab. You'll need to make this choice every time you share your screen:

Troubleshooting

• Accidentally denied or skipped the permissions step

• Nothing happens when trying to share audio/video, there's no pop-up asking to grant permission

If the message asking to grant permission does not appear and the audio/video toggle does not turn green, most likely the browser permission for Attendify was denied or skipped earlier. To fix this and enable permissions, click on the mic/cam icon at the far right of the URL bar and change your selection for this permission, then try to share your mic/camera again:

1.2. Granting permissions in Safari

For microphone, camera or screen, click "Allow" when prompted:

Your choice is only saved for the current web session, so if you refresh the page or close the tab, next time you will be asked again. To allow sharing permanently for Attendify, follow the steps from the "Troubleshooting" paragraph below.

• Accidentally denied or skipped the permissions step

• Nothing happens when trying to share audio/video/screen, there's no pop-up asking to grant permission

If the message asking to grant permission does not appear and the audio/video/screen toggle does not turn green, most likely the browser permission for Attendify was denied or skipped earlier. To fix this and enable permissions, go to Safari's Preferences —> Websites tab —> select the necessary permission on the left (Microphone / Camera / Screen Sharing). On the right, scroll and find ve.attendify.com and switch its setting to "Allow". Here's a video with these steps:

When done, come back to the session and try sharing your mic/cam/screen again. You may need to reload the page for the changes to apply.

1.3. Granting permissions in Firefox

For microphone and camera, make sure to check "Remember this decision" when prompted (this way your choice will be saved), then click "Allow":

For screen, you will also need to select what exactly you want to share: a certain application window (e. g. your keynote) or the entire screen:

If the message asking to grant permission does not appear and the audio/video toggle does not turn green, most likely the browser permission for Attendify was denied or skipped earlier. To fix this and enable permissions, click on the mic/cam icon at the far left of the URL bar and cancel the blocking setting, then try to share your mic/camera again and select "Allow" when prompted (you may need to reload the page for the changes to apply):

2. Permissions for Your Browser on macOS

If you're on macOS 10.14 Mojave or later, your browser itself needs permissions from the system to present, so follow the instruction below. If you have an earlier version of macOS or are using Windows, disregard this step. You can also disregard it if you're using Safari — Apple's own apps do not require this explicit permission.

Starting with macOS Mojave, Apple introduced an additional security measure requiring any 3rd-party app to get your permission before sharing audio, webcam, or screen. Browsers are no exception. If this is the first time you're sharing your microphone or camera via this browser, you'll get a message asking you to grant the permission. Click "OK" to enable it:

If you're sharing your screen for the first time via this browser, you'll get a message asking you to go to System Preferences. Click "Open System Preferences" and you'll be taken to the "Privacy" section. In the list of apps on the right, scroll and find your browser and put a checkmark next to it. Here's a video with these steps:

You may be asked to enter your Mac password to make this change. You will also need to restart your browser after enabling this permission for the change to take effect.

If the message asking to grant permission does not appear and the audio/video/screen toggle does not turn green, most likely the system permission for your browser was denied or skipped earlier.
